The Lord of the Rings

Based on the time after the events of the books when Aragorn is married to Arwyn and rules Gondor. It's his birthday and his son, Eldarion, is now old enough to join the celebration feast. He works very hard to behave appropriately as he was taught, but at one point accidentally spills something on one of the guests. He feels bad about ruining his fathers birthday, but as everyone else at the table tells of their embarrassing first times at a banquet, he realises he's not the only one. Aragorn reassures him that it was the most entertaining birthday he's had. A bit hard to believe, though, considering Aragorns old age...


Apart from the name of the son, the story is written well with good descriptions. The Elvish used helped give the correct atmosphere but it's not written in any similar tone to the books.

Hunger Games

Written from the point of view of Katniss Everdeens little sister, Primrose, in the morning of the Reaping. It tells of how she spends the day helping her mother and taking care of her animals while Katniss is out hunting.

The sentences flow nicely and the way it's written seems to fit well with Prims personality, and the author ties the events in perfectly with the original story. The ironic statement in the last sentence gives it a good finish.




The Chronicles of Narnia

When the four siblings are ruling in Narnia life seems to be running smoothly until a hag and a werewolf are seen near the castle and Edmund's disappearance becomes noticed. They soon begin plans to find and save him.


A little brief in description and the characters don't fully resemble how they were in the books or movies. The plot is interesting and the series of events provide good suspense.






Harry Potter

An alternate storyline where Lily Potter leaves James for Severus Snape after Harry's born, and has another baby girl before she dies. She's sent off to live separately with a muggle family  and 11 years later it's her first year at Hogwarts.


The idea of this story is very interesting and has potential. The downfall is that all the characters' personalities are completely different to the books, and the girls name is awful.

The Knife of Never Letting Go

Another, this time slightly, alternate storyline about Todd and Viola taking the left fork in the road instead of the right to see the result of a different choice. When stopping to rest they find themselves in the midst of a Spackle camp.


Alternate storylines are interesting. This story is written in a similar fashion and spelling to the actual book which is impressive for a book of this kind. Unfortunately the alternate line is shortlived, as Todd and Viola are later pointed in the right direction to continue the original plot.
