Caroline's Fanfiction Draft

Caroline's Fanfiction Draft - Thumbelina in Narnia?!

Thumbelina grows up!
Instead of growing older, she grows bigger until she's a normal sized person. She's born into Narnia as one of Aslan's followers and makes friends with Lucy and her siblings.
While Thumbelina's still small, she works behind the scenes doing secret spy missions and always has an animal aid (because of her inconvenient size).

With the fall of the white witch, the curse on Thumbelina to keep her from growing is lifted. As the four siblings stay in Narnia as kings and queens, Thumbelina helps them.

Even though the curse is lifted, she naturally grows very slowly, not being fully grown until the end of the series.

Because of her deeds in helping Aslan and the Pevensie siblings fight and defeat the white witch, Aslan grants her fairy wings! yay! But Thumbelina can't use them straight away. She has to have the patience and determination to learn how to use her gift that will later be useful whenever any future cause for adventure arises.

But how will it end??

When the Pevensie children, all grown up, find there way back to their world and Thumbelina is left behind. To her and the Narnians the kings and queens have just plain disappeared and it's up to her to keep things running  smoothly.

Epilogue: She meets everyone again in the new Narnia and everybody lives happily ever after

Love story? I don't know whether to include something like that and, if I do, whether to make up another character for the job or to have something with one of the Pevensie brothers...

Oh well, perhaps the best idea will come to me as I go along... now where to begin?

PROLOGUE:

The lion roared and the world began to come to life. A group of people from another world looked on as plants appeared, animals came to life, and the lion slowly drew nearer.
The witch tries to throw a pole, but when it hits the lion, it just bounces off and he doesn't seem to notice. When the pole lands on the ground it grows into a lamppost.
In fear, the witch runs away into a nearby newly grown forest, and one of the men tries to escape as well but doesn't get very far before he trips and falls.
A boy upon a horse approaches the great lion surrounded by animals. The boy is sent on a journey and the horse is given wings. Together they fly away, not to be seen until the next day.

By the gate that was the entrance to the garden there grew a large beautiful flower. The boy took an interest and had a closer look. As it was still early morning and the sun was coming up, the flower began to bloom right before his eyes, and inside there was a tiny girl beginning to wake up. She went with the boy into the garden and then back to see the lion.
The fruit taken from the garden is thrown away and the first king and queen are crowned. When the boy takes the fruit from the new tree that has grown, he and his friends disappear back into their world.
The tiny girl was sad and lonely that her first friend had gone so soon, but the first queen of Narnia took an interest in her and, holding her in the palm of her hand exclaimed "why, you're no bigger than my thumb!"
Thus, her name became Thumbelina.

AND ONTO THE STORY:

How long has it been since the days that weren't white? A hundred years since the last flower bloomed and the snow began to fall. Such limited weather variations was boring to wake up to every morning.

"Thumbelina!"

She opened the door to the balcony on the tiny tree house that fits her tiny size to find a bird sitting there.

"Good morning, Jacquimo. Any luck with the worms this morning?"

"Forget worms, Miss Thumbelina, everyone's saying that a girl's in the forest. A human girl!"

Well, this was new; her eyes widened in surprise.

"Apparently she was picked up by Tumnus at Lanterns Wane and he took her to his house." he said.

"Are they still there now?" Thumbelina asked. "Let's go and see if this is true and keep an eye on them."

Jacquimo nodded his head and sat down to let her on to his back.

Thumbelina loved riding on Jacquimo's back. At first she was terrified and would scream in his ear, but now she was used to it and, having calmed down, she noticed the wind in her hair and the view of everything from being up so high. When they arrived at Tumnus' house she was almost disappointed it was over. She soon forgot it as her thoughts moved on to the new visitor of the forest.

Looking through the window they saw a young girl having tea with Tumnus. They looked to be chatting comfortably, though Tumnus seemed to be a bit nervous. But that was understandable considering he was in the presence of an actual human child who could be the answer to the prophecy and bring back the Sun.

Thumbelina and Jacquimo weren't watching for very long before the inhabitants of the house began to stir. It looked like the girl was getting ready to leave!

"Quick, let's hide in the trees and watch from there!" Thumbelina cried.

Tumnus and the girl came out and started walking off, Jacquimo and Thumbelina quietly fluttering through the trees behind them unnoticed.

"You will come back to visit again, won't you?" the faun asked the girl.

"Oh I'd love to! I'll bring my brothers and sister with me to show them Narnia. They'll be so surprised."

When they arrived at the lamppost of Lanterns Wane they said their goodbyes and the faun watched the little girl walk away into the bushes. After she had disappeared Jacquimo, with Tumbelina still on his back, called as he flew over Tumnus, giving him quite a scare. Quickly recovering, he lifted his hand and Jacquimo perched atop it.

"Why Thumbelina and Jacquimo! What a pleasant surprise. Did you happen to see who I just had the honour of entertaining?"

"Yes, it's all over the forest so we decided to come and have a look for ourselves, but we didn't want to interrupt. Did you tell her about the prophecy?"

Tumnus started fidgeting nervously.

"No...but I told her that the White Witch was looking for any humans who came to Narnia and that I was to hand her over, but -" Tears welled in his eyes.

"When I played her to sleep with my flute she looked so innocent and I couldn't bring myself to do it," he said as a tear fell.

"You did the right thing, Tumnus," Thumbelina assured him. "When she comes back you must introduce us. And be careful not to let the White Witch find out; there are many of her spies lurking about these days," she added less loudly. Given her size, she's usually obliged to shout.

---

The days went by and the three friends would each go for walks - or flights - in Lanterns Wane to keep an eye out for any more visitors. Finally, about a week after the girl's last visit, Jacquimo tapped at the balcony window of Thumbelina's tiny tree house.

"Quick quick! She's back, she's back! She's on her way to Tumnus' house now. Quick quick, we must hurry!"

Quickly flying through the trees, the pair made it outside Tumnus' house just as the girl was approaching. Perching on a low hanging branch by the front door, Jacquimo chirped loudly and the girl looked up. Seeing Thumbelina waving to her from the back of a swallow, the young girl looked surprised, and she walked over to take a closer look.

"Hello and welcome to Narnia. I am Jacquimo and this is Thumbelina. We're so glad to finally meet you!"

"My name's Lucy. Pleased to meet you. My goodness, you're so small!" she cried, referring to Thumbelina. "How did you get so small?"

"I was born from a flower before the long winter came," Thumbelina replied. "I didn't get to grow very much before the White Witch took over and made it always winter but never Christmas. But now that a daughter of Eve has finally arrived we have hope of spring again."

"But I'm just a little girl. How can I make any difference?"

"Well, now that you're here, Aslan should be returning soon and he'll know what to do."

"Aslan?"

"Yes, Aslan the creator of all Narnia. He's coming back to get rid of the White Witch and put things right. Our job is to take the two sons of Adam and the Two daughters of Eve and protect you from the Witch. Now, do you know the other sons of Adam and daughter of Eve?"

"Who? I have two brothers and a sister but, are they who you mean?"

"They could be. Where are they now?"

"They're back at the house. They didn't believe me and wouldn't come back with me."

"Let me convince them," Thumbelina said. "You can take me back to your world and Jacquimo can stay guard by the lantern."

When they reached the lantern they saw a boy standing beside it looking a little confused.

"Edmund!" Lucy cried. "You followed me. Now do you believe me?"

"Yeah, I suppose so," he said reluctantly, reverting his eyes.

After being introduced to Thumbelina and Jacquimo, Lucy took Thumbelina through the bushes to meet Peter and Susan, the two older siblings. Edmund chose to stay behind and have a look around with Jacquimo to look after him.

They hadn't been gone long before the sound of muffled hoofs came into hearing.

"Quick, hide!" Jacquimo cried.

Edmund, only slightly startled and clearly not knowing the possible danger, went slowly to hide behind the tree with the bird. Soon a horse pulling an open sleigh came into view, and there in the sleigh was a magnificent looking woman dressed all in white. Edmund obviously didn't feel afraid, for his head was poking out quite far and he didn't even jump when the woman looked straight at him and yelled:

"Stop!"

---

"Where's Edmund?"

Lucy looked at Jacquimo.

"The White Witch took him! There was nothing I could do" said Jacquimo in tears.

"Oh my!" exclaimed Susan, who was also taken aback by the talking bird. "Whatever are we going to do to get him back?"

"We'll have to go after him," said Peter, who'd recovered already.

Thumbelina shook her head vigorously.

"No," she said. "We can't risk the rest of you falling into the White Witch's hands. Jacquimo and I will gather our friends and get him back for you. Mr and Mrs Beaver will look after you while we're gone."

---

The guards had run off a few moments earlier and Edmund, lying alone in the dark damp cell inside a tall tower, heard rustling and a loud click. Suddenly his cell door swung wide open! Then a small voice came out of nowhere.

"This way, come on!" a pause, then: "Down here!"

And there standing on the floor was Thumbelina, hands on her hips in exhasperation.

"How did you get here?" Edmund asked, alarmed.

"Jacquimo flew me up to lead you out. We have to hurry while the guards are still distracted."

Carefully picking her up, Edmund made his way out of the cell and down the stairs with Thumbelina giving directions. As they were nearing the exit, the noise of a commotion outside grew louder. When they reached the door, looking out from behind it, they saw many birds and forest animals running around with the witch's dwarfs chasing after them, the witch herself shouting instructions from nearby.

"When I say 'now', wait for everyone to be distracted before running to the gate," Thumbelina told Edmund.

"Now!"

Suddenly hundreds of rats Edmund had no idea was following behind them came rushing out the door as he stood frozen in shock. By now there was an uproar and everyone was running around in chaos. Thumbelina had to bite his thumb to remind him he should be running. Before he could think himself out of it he lunged forward into the ruckus. They were about halfway to the gate and out to freedom when they realised they'd been spotted because the witch was shrieking even louder:

"Get them! Get them, you fools!!" o.O

Fortunately there was too much going on and any hasty attempts to catch them obviously failed because, after what seemed like an eternity, they made it to the gate. Jacquimo and a horse were waiting for them on the other side. As they made their escape Edmund was either scared or very grateful for the way he was clinging onto the horse. Jacquimo, with Thumbelina, was flying alongside and keeping a lookout behind them.

"Where are we going?" Edmund eventually asked after relaxing somewhat.

"Onward to Aslan!" Thumbelina replied.

---

Edmund was reunited with his siblings, having learnt his lesson not to make friends with bad people. And with spring arriving, the fairies had woken up, and Thumbelina was reunited with her boyfriend, Cornelius, the fairy Prince. Even though Cornelius was happy to be Thumbelina's wings, as a reward for her efforts in saving Edmund, Aslan gave her a pair of wings of her own. These were to be of use in defeating the White Witch and any other problems that should arise, for Jacquimo and even Cornelius weren't always going to be able to carry her.

Despite the wings taking a bit of time for her to get used to, after much perseverance, Thumbelina was soon zooming around into everyone's faces. The new kings and queens of Narnia were crowned, and Thumbelina was made their royal adviser.

The End

Wow, sorry about the length, I got a bit carried away... After writing all la-dee-da-dee for a bit I suddenly realised how much I'd written, so I kinda hastened it a bit, and then more, so that's pretty obvious...

But don't worry, for the final I'm going to do some major editing and improving.

Any constructive feedback for what to keep or throw out, add in, please?  <=}
